Recently, my teacher assigned my class a Music Marketing Project, so me and my friends got in a group to work together. We began by completing basic research of our given genre ... metal. This was difficult for me, as I know very little about metal, and what constitutes as a metal band, but either way my group and I pushed through, and were able to gain basic information on the genre.
One we had this research complete, it allowed us to brainstorm what we wanted our artist/band to be like. Once again, this raised the problem of me not knowing what metal bands are like, and the only way I could help here, was by pitching stereotypical metal characteristics. We decided to make our band, a dark but laid back group, who only create music when they are inspired. They also make controversial tweets every once in a while.
After we established what we wanted our group to be like it led to the last part of planning. We were now ready to create a music video for our brand new band. Deciding on which type of music video was difficult, as promos are hard to do for metal, the song had very few lyrics making it harder to complete a storyteller, and we didn't have any ideas for an artistic music video. This led to us doing a promo, even though it was difficult. The idea was to all dress up as prisoners, and have that be our ascetic. We found a dark hallway in a community park, and were prepared to film there. We decided to use a muzzle for the singer, as this would make it easier for us to synch the audio to video, as the video no longer needed to be perfect. After we had our idea for the music video, we planned out exactly what we wanted to film, as shown below.
The next steps are to film the music video, and create a marketing campaign for our band "The Guys", so I'll keep you updated.
